Research
We apply quantitative research and mathematical modelling across a broad spectrum of fields, including development, sustainability, public health, education, and organisational reform, particularly in settings where rigorous evidence is scarce and the stakes of getting it wrong are high.

Rigorous work that stays inside one institution changes nothing. We take research, reforms, and interventions that are already producing results on the ground and turn them into something the wider world can read, fund, replicate, and build on.

Consulting and Organisational Development
For government institutions, NGOs, international missions, and companies facing structural, people, or performance challenges they cannot resolve from inside.
Engagements run two to six months: diagnosis first, then the build, then a documented handover. Every engagement ends with something the client owns and can run without us.
Quantitative Research and Modelling
For anyone whose decisions, programmes, or research need numbers that hold: funders, governments, humanitarians, ministries, companies, academics, and researchers working in the field or from a desk.
Methods stated, assumptions visible, no black box. Scoped studies run from two weeks to six months depending on the problem.
Social Research and Documentation
For funders and foundations who need to know what happened to their money, implementers who did good work and cannot prove it, and universities or education providers working in complex or low-resource settings.
Engagements run four to twelve weeks. We interview, verify, write, and hand over material the client owns outright.
Software and Educational Tools
For education providers, research institutions, and organisations needing bespoke digital tools that solve a specific problem, built to work in the environments where they will actually be used.
Engagements begin with a scoping conversation to define the problem before any build begins. Tools are designed for real conditions, including low-connectivity and resource-constrained environments.

Arrte Ltd is led by Solara Abdelsamie Adam Ali, who brings together nearly three decades of university-level teaching in applied mathematics and stochastic analysis across Sudanese institutions, sixteen years inside a diplomatic mission in Khartoum, and consulting experience with USAID, Chemonics International, DT Global, and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
She is a member of the American Mathematical Society. She has mentored young professionals and recent graduates over more than a decade: two years as a volunteer enterprise mentor with The Prince's Trust, eight years of mentoring through Arrte (paused during the 2023 war and displacement), and more recently through the OAKNA Foundation.
Arrte Ltd is registered in the UK. Work in Sudan is carried out in partnership with local implementing partners.
This isn't a one-person practice.
Quantitative research rarely stays inside one discipline. Arrte's work draws on a transdisciplinary network of independent collaborators spanning multiple fields, each leading their own team or practice. None are employed by Arrte Ltd; each is engaged on a project basis as the work requires.

Arrte Review is a monthly publication documenting research and consultancy work across organisational development, quantitative modelling, public health, education, and community impact. Each edition carries one field review drawn from Arrte's field work. These are practitioner field reviews: documented accounts of real work, presented with their evidence and limitations visible. They are not peer-reviewed journal articles.
Temporal Anchoring in Compensation Strategy: A Mathematical Intervention for Organisational Resilience during Hyperinflation
This field review documents a compensation modelling intervention conducted during Sudan's 2014-2015 hyperinflation period. A government-affiliated mission operating with locally engaged staff faced two compounding problems: a static exchange rate in its budget model was misrepresenting actual fund flows, and collapsing real purchasing power was driving attrition risk above 40%. The intervention corrected the budget model and introduced temporal anchoring, converting local-currency salaries to a stable historical USD reference rate. The result was a 56% reduction in sterling payroll costs, a 53% increase in staff real purchasing power, and retroactive pay funded from the first month's surplus. Attrition risk fell to below 5%.

Not every field review in these pages will be right. Not every conclusion will survive scrutiny. That is part of the work of learning and research. What matters is that the work is presented honestly: its evidence and reasoning are visible, its limitations are acknowledged, and others are free to examine it, question it, correct it, or take it somewhere new.
That is the only commitment Arrte Review makes, and the only one worth making.

Teaching Them How to Fish
A revolving microfinance programme channelling zakat and sadaqa into vocational training and business start-up capital. Over thirteen years, it reached more than 17,000 families, the majority women-led, before the 2023 war halted operations. Rebuilding is underway.
Mobile Clinics, Khartoum Floods
Fourteen weekly mobile clinics run across flood-affected areas of Khartoum during the 2021 flood season, funded entirely through a social network crowdfunding campaign and staffed by volunteer physicians, dentists, biomedical scientists, and pharmacists.
